You Can Only Control Your Own Behavior

Do you want to know one of the biggest choices we can control every day that affects us?   It’s our behavior.

If all behavior is purposeful there must be some reason why we do the things we do?  This question is a question I think about daily.

Today, I just began week 4 of my workout challenge.  After teaching all day, I felt exhausted!  I wanted to just sit at my desk, correct and plan for the rest of the week.    I am sure that I am not the only one that feels this way after a Monday with Kindergarten and Grade 1’s.  My top controlling behaviors were starting to take over.

Top Controlling Behaviors

  1. I’m tired.
  2. I have other work to do.
  3. It’s Monday.
  4. My legs are sore.
  5. I will do it tomorrow.
  6. It is too late.
  7. I deserve a rest.
  8. I will catch up later.
  9. I’ve already worked hard today.
  10. No internet.

Excuses started to run my life and would stop me from following through with commitments.  Then I read somewhere that people are more than willing to follow through with their commitments to other people but rarely to themselves.  This was an eye opener because that is EXACTLY what I would do! So, I knew it was time to change that.

All day long we are making choices that affect our behaviors.  The only person that is responsible for your behavior is you and only you can change it.  Learning to recognize behaviors that are stopping you from reaching your full potential takes work.

My debut at the Grand Ole Opry.

At the end of the day, I am in control of my own behaviors.  3 weeks ago I made a choice.  I committed to a 6 week program and I wasn’t going to let anything stand in my way of finishing.   Making the right choice may not always be easy but it will be worth it.

If your behaviors are holding you back remember you have the choice to change them!
